Curfew Declared in Nagpur to Restore Law and Order: Know the Details

Following a series of protests and violent clashes, Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal has imposed a curfew in several areas under Police Zones 3, 4, and 5 to maintain law and order. The curfew, enforced under the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, Sections 163(1), (2), and (3), came into effect at 12:01 AM on March 18 and will remain in place until further notice.
Curfew Imposed in Key Areas
To prevent further unrest, curfew restrictions have been enforced in the following areas:
- Zone 3: Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, and Shantinagar
- Zone 4: Sakkardara, Nandanvan, and Imamwada
- Zone 5: Yashodharanagar and Kapilnagar
Curfew Guidelines
Under the curfew:
- Residents are prohibited from leaving their homes, except in cases of medical emergencies.
- Public gatherings of more than five people are strictly banned.
- Spreading rumours or misinformation is prohibited.
Exemptions and Legal Action
Exemptions to the curfew include:
- On-duty police personnel, government officials, and administrative staff.
- Essential services such as fire and emergency response teams.
- Students appearing for scheduled examinations.
Violations of the curfew will result in strict action under Section 223 of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023. Police have also been authorised to restrict movement on roads leading to the affected areas to ensure peace and order.
The curfew will remain in effect until further notice as authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
