Nagpur, India: In a significant move to curb public nuisance, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Nuisance Detection Squad took strict action against violators on Thursday, recording 67 cases and collecting fines amounting to ₹50,500. The squad targeted offenses such as public urination, littering, spitting, improper waste disposal, and the use of plastic bags thinner than 51 microns.

Key Offenses and Fines Collected:

• Street Vendors: 10 cases of littering by handcart vendors, stall owners, and hawkers led to a collection of ₹4,000 (₹400 per case).
• Individuals Littering: 5 cases of individuals throwing garbage in public spaces resulted in ₹500 in fines (₹100 per case).
• Shopkeepers: 3 cases of shopkeepers disposing of waste improperly garnered ₹1,200 in fines (₹400 per case).
• Commercial Establishments: 4 cases involving malls, hotels, and cinemas dumping waste improperly resulted in fines of ₹8,000 (₹2,000 per case).
• Blocking Roads for Private Use: 15 cases of encroachments, such as stages and temporary structures on roads, brought in ₹22,000 (₹1,500 per case).
• Chicken and Meat Sellers: 1 case of improper waste disposal from these businesses resulted in a ₹1,000 fine.
• Garages and Workshops: 3 cases of waste dumped in public areas fetched fines of ₹3,000 (₹1,000 per case).
• Construction Debris: 1 case of debris dumping led to a ₹1,000 fine.
• Miscellaneous Offenses: 19 cases involving individuals (₹3,800) and 6 cases involving organizations (₹6,000) were recorded.

Major Penalties:

The squad also imposed heavy fines on notable violators:

• Anant Anand Developers (Dhantoli Zone): Fined ₹10,000 for dumping construction materials on public roads.
• Balaji Enterprises (Satranjipura Zone): Fined ₹5,000 for using banned plastic bags.

The swift action by the squad has sent a strong message against public nuisance in the city. The drive was led by Nuisance Detection Squad Chief Virsen Tambe, with efforts focused on maintaining cleanliness and ensuring adherence to civic regulations.

Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate and avoid activities that lead to public inconvenience or health hazards. Further stringent actions are expected in the coming days.
