Nagpur, India: A 72-year-old woman from Nagpur has become an unexpected hero after courageously resisting armed robbers for over two hours during a break-in at her home in Arya Nagar. Ramala Agashe, targeted by the criminals because of her age, fought back fiercely. She managed to grab one of the robbers by the collar and held him down, forcing the group to flee after stealing a gold mangalsutra, a ring, and ₹900 in cash. Despite the theft, Ramala saved most of her valuables.
Ramala, now recovering in the ICU of a local hospital, was alone when the robbers broke in. They attempted to tie her up with a torn curtain and threatened her with a knife, but she refused to be intimidated. Even after being punched in the face and left bleeding, she insisted on unlocking her almirahs herself instead of handing over the keys.
The incident began when Ramala left her doors open, expecting a gas cylinder delivery. When the delivery boy arrived, one of the robbers briefly stepped outside to turn him away. Frustrated by Ramala's defiance, the robbers eventually fled with what little they could grab. After they left, she freed herself using her teeth and raised the alarm. Her son, an engineer, quickly returned home and took her to the hospital.
Despite her injuries, Ramala is determined to face the robbers again if they are caught. The Koradi police and crime branch are investigating the incident and have collected CCTV footage. A senior official indicated that the robbers are likely repeat offenders with previous criminal records, as they mentioned their frequent encounters with the law to Ramala during the ordeal.
