Nagpur, India: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation's Nuisance Detection Squad has taken stringent action against public nuisances, including urination, littering, and spitting in public spaces, as well as the use of plastic bags below the mandated thickness of 50 microns. On Friday, the squad registered 77 cases and collected a total of ₹32,300 in fines.
Among the offenses, one case involved spitting on public roads, footpaths, and open areas, resulting in a fine of ₹200. The squad also recorded 24 cases against street vendors, stalls, and hawkers for causing public nuisance by littering, imposing fines totaling ₹9,600. Four individuals were fined ₹100 each for dumping garbage in public places, and a shopkeeper was fined ₹400 for the same offense. A case involving a commercial establishment, such as a mall or restaurant, resulted in a fine of ₹2,000 for littering.
The squad also fined ₹5,500 in 11 cases for blocking roads with structures like tents and stages. In one instance, a fine of ₹1,000 was imposed for dumping construction debris in public spaces. Additionally, 26 cases of miscellaneous public nuisances resulted in fines totaling ₹5,200, while eight cases involving organizations led to fines of ₹8,000.
The operation was led by Veersen Tambe, Chief of the Nuisance Detection Squad.
Additional fines were imposed in several specific cases: Mr. Rupesh Jattewar was fined ₹10,000 for improper storage of construction materials in the Hanuman Nagar Zone. Hotel Ashoka in the Dhantoli Zone was fined ₹5,000 for placing banners on electric poles without permission. In the Gandhibagh Zone, Rashi Disposal was fined ₹5,000 for using plastic bags. The Orange City Fair, represented by Mr. Mayur Makheja and Mr. Ishwar Kasturi, received fines of ₹5,000 each for unauthorized banners on electric poles. In Satranjipura Zone, Gurukrupa Sweets was fined ₹5,000 for using plastic bags.
Overall, the Nuisance Detection Squad recorded six specific cases and collected a total of ₹35,000 in fines.
