Nagpur, India: The Public Works Department (PWD) has launched two major infrastructure projects in Nagpur to address connectivity and traffic issues. One of the key projects involves extending the existing Radisson Bridge to improve access for residents of Manish Nagar and nearby areas. The project, overseen by the World Bank Division of PWD, aims to ease travel for thousands of people on the other side of the railway tracks, facing challenges due to a lack of direct routes to Wardha Road and other key locations.
Nagpur's railway line divides several areas, including Manish Nagar, Besa-Beltarodi, and their surrounding neighbourhoods, which have seen rapid residential development. This growth has increased traffic and a pressing need for better infrastructure. The planned extension to the Radisson Bridge, estimated at ₹82.31 crore and slated for completion within 24 months, will create a vital link for commuters. The new railway overbridge (RoB) will connect Jaiprakash Nagar Square to Suyog Nagar Square, enhancing mobility and reducing travel time.
The PWD has already introduced DP roads connecting Khapri to Manish Nagar and Beltarodi Road, along with tunnels at Manish Nagar railway crossing and Karve Nagar. However, these solutions have proven insufficient to meet the needs of the growing population. The new RoB will directly link the Radisson Blu bridge to Wardha Road, providing much-needed relief to commuters and improving regional connectivity.
In a separate initiative, the PWD has also undertaken the construction of a four-lane flyover on Inner Ring Road to alleviate traffic congestion between Manewada Square and Mhalgi Nagar Square. The ₹142.55 crore project is designed to address the heavy vehicular movement in this area, which connects densely populated residential localities. The flyover is expected to streamline traffic and reduce delays, particularly on stretches plagued by frequent jams and accidents.
Both projects managed through the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) model, aim to deliver timely solutions to Nagpur's growing infrastructure demands. Once completed, they will significantly improve connectivity, enhance road safety, and support the city's expanding population.
