Football fans everywhere will be riveted to their television screens this weekend when the new Premier League 2024–25 season gets underway. The season opener between Manchester United and Fulham takes place on Saturday at Old Trafford.

The Premier League will also be subject to a new regulation that will do away with the long-standing custom of clubs revealing their matchday squads one hour before to kickoff. The competition's regulating board has eliminated the rule in advance of the upcoming season.

The new rule states that clubs can disclose their team sheets 75 minutes prior to kickoff, giving them an additional 15 minutes. As a result, team sheets for a 3:00 PM match will now be made available to the public by 1:45 PM, providing managers less time to make last-minute adjustments.

This complies with UEFA regulations and might increase match competition in the future campaign. "At least 75 minutes before the time fixed for the kick-off of a league match," according to the Premier League manual, is the new requirement.
