Nagpur, India: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed a 425-page chargesheet after a month in the magistrate court against Ritika Maloo, her husband Dinesh Maloo, and co-passenger Madhuri Sarda in connection with the tragic Ram Jhula flyover accident on February 25. The incident claimed the lives of two young men, Mohd Atif and Mohd Hussain Mustafa.
Ritika Maloo, accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing the fatal accident, had been granted default bail after the CID failed to file the chargesheet within the mandated 60-day period.
The accident occurred when Maloo, allegedly driving her black Mercedes Benz after leaving CP Club, struck the victims. Forensic tests confirmed the presence of alcohol in her blood. She faces charges under Section 304 (II) of the Indian Penal Code, which carries a potential sentence of over nine years upon conviction.
The chargesheet includes extensive technical and scientific evidence, such as blood alcohol reports and CCTV footage. The CID also recorded statements from two eyewitnesses in the presence of a magistrate, strengthening the case against Maloo.
Officials stated that a supplementary chargesheet will also be filed based on additional reports from the Forensic Laboratory. The case was handed over to the CID after the complainant sought its transfer through the high court.
The case continues to draw significant public attention, with the focus now on ensuring justice for the victims.
