Nagpur, India: The Ambazari Road bridge, which was widened and opened a month ago, is already showing signs of neglect, leaving motorists frustrated. After enduring nearly six months of traffic congestion during the construction phase, commuters are now facing new challenges due to poorly constructed approach roads.
When the Ambazari Bridge was opened, its condition raised concerns, as only one side was operational. This raises the question: on what safety basis was the bridge opened?
Despite the bridge's opening on October 11, after several delays, both sides of the bridge remain in use while the approach roads remain in a hazardous condition. The Public Works Department (PWD), responsible for the project, has yet to begin work on concretizing the approach roads, which are now filled with loose gravel, creating unsafe conditions for vehicles.
Vivek Rahate, a regular commuter, expressed his concern, "While the bridge work caused long delays, the state of the approach roads is even worse now. Loose gravel is scattered everywhere, making it dangerous for vehicles and pedestrians. Additionally, the steep incline at both ends of the bridge is causing vehicles to skid and accidents to occur."
The bridge's opening was widely seen as rushed, possibly in preparation for upcoming elections, but the lack of completion and maintenance continues to put commuters at risk.
