he Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has issued notices to several respondents in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) calling for the acquisition and transfer of 3.84 acres of land from the Cotton Research Institute and 16.44 acres from Mata Kacheri to support the comprehensive development of Deekshabhoomi.
Advocate Shailesh Narnaware filed the application to address the persistent issue of underground parking at Deekshabhoomi. The petition emphasizes the critical need to elevate Deekshabhoomi to a globally recognized pilgrimage and tourist destination, citing constitutional provisions and municipal regulations to advocate for equal development.
During the hearing, Justices Nitin Sambre and Abhay Mantri issued notices to multiple respondents, including the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (New Delhi), the State Department of Urban Development, the State Department of Finance, the State Directorate of Municipal Administration, the State Director of Planning, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti, the Divisional Railway Manager, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the State Ministry of Social Justice, the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA), and the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT).
The petitioner underscored the urgency of acquiring the necessary lands to facilitate ongoing development projects, which are crucial for the preservation and enhancement of Deekshabhoomi.
