Vinesh Phogat, an Indian wrestler, suffered a significant defeat on Wednesday when her appeal against being disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 final was turned down.

Vinesh's appeal was denied today when the Indian wrestler's case was rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, following a delay in the ruling. Tuesday saw a second postponement of the Indian wrestler's bid for a shared silver medal.

Vinesh Phogat's appeal against her disqualification from the Olympic Games was denied by the ad hoc section of the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Wednesday, according to confirmation from the Indian Olympic Association. This means that she will not be competing for the joint silver medal in women's 50kg wrestling.

Vinesh was eliminated from the competition after she weighed 100 grams over the allowed limit on the morning of August 7, the day of her historic gold-medal match against American woman Sarah Ann Hildebrandt in the 50 kg weight class.

"The operative part of the August 14 decision, which dismisses Vinesh Phogat’s application to be awarded a shared silver medal in women's 50 kg category at the Paris Olympic Games has significant implications for her in particular and the sporting community at large," the International Olympic Committee said.
