Nagpur, India- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raids on Wednesday at the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) in Nagpur, amidst allegations of fraudulent appointments within the organization.
The investigation against former Director Dr. Rakesh Kumar, who is accused of appointing his family members using falsified documents during his tenure at NEERI. Dr. Kumar had been suspended earlier this year after these allegations surfaced, casting a shadow over his service.
Dr. Kumar faces serious charges, including misuse of funds meant for research projects that were reportedly never executed, and the controversial appointments of his relatives and acquaintances across various departments within NEERI.
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), prompted by multiple complaints, initiated an inquiry which eventually led to Dr. Kumar's removal from his position as Director.
Apart from Dr. Rakesh Kumar, the CBI is scrutinizing the roles of eight to nine other scientists believed to have been complicit in the alleged misconduct.
The CBI's raid on NEERI's premises marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation, aiming to uncover the truth behind these serious allegations of nepotism and document forgery within one of the country's premier research institutions.
