Nagpur, India: The key accused in the Ram Jhula accident case, Ritika Maloo, was arrested by the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) during a late-night operation on Thursday. She was apprehended from her residence in Deshpande Layout, Wardhaman Nagar.
The arrest followed a rare decision by the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) to open the courtroom at 10:30 pm, allowing Maloo’s arrest after sunset, which is typically not permitted for women under legal provisions. Sources are questioning the credibility of Ritika Maloo's arrest, it is alleged that she was arrested in a non-typical way just to seek bail on Friday.
This action came just hours after the sessions court cancelled Maloo’s bail, 214 days after the accident in which her luxury Mercedes allegedly hit and killed two people on Ram Jhula.
A team of ten CID officers, including two women, carried out the operation. After midnight, The team entered one of the Maloo family’s homes but left without her. They then moved to another bungalow in the same lane. At around 1:45 am, the officers emerged from the residence with Maloo, seated between two women officers in a vehicle that swiftly left the scene.
This arrest is a significant step forward in the ongoing investigation of the high-profile accident case.
