In support of the people of Ladakh and Dr. Sonam Wangchuk of 3 Idiots fame, Partavaran Prerna Vidarbha and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have called for a climate strike by Nagpur locals. It is scheduled for March 17 from 4.40 to 7 p.m. at RBI's nearby Samvidhan Chowk.
By giving local bodies more autonomy and the power to establish regulations relevant to the sustainable use of the region's resources, the Sixth Schedule will help conserve Ladakh's natural legacy. Dr. Wangchuk is using his climate strike to lobby for the implementation of this schedule.
It is significant to remember that the Himalayas—particularly the Ladakh region—are extremely susceptible to the consequences of global warming. Any unplanned and uncontrolled development-related activity, such as mining or rapid industrialization, will have disastrous effects on the entire Indian subcontinent as well as this region.
Because of this, Dr. Wangchuk has been on an extended 21-day hunger strike for the past nine days in below-freezing weather. He is camping out with supporters and demanding the implementation of the VIth Schedule, which was promised to them in the 2019 poll manifesto but has not yet been carried out. Millions of Dr. Wangchuk's supporters, well-wishers, and environmentalists have responded to his request by organizing nationwide climate strikes or fasts on March 17.
This planned event aims to increase public awareness of the dangers of industrialization, mining, and unsustainable development, which eventually render the earth unfit for human habitation.
