Nagpur, India- A 5-year-old girl succumbed to a Krait snake bite, while her older brother is in critical condition at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur.
The deceased, identified as Rani Chandrawanshi, was a resident of Dhanora in Madhya Pradesh. Her brother, Ram (9), is currently receiving intensive care at GMCH.
The tragic event unfolded during the night between Thursday and Friday when the siblings were bitten by a Krait snake. Nitish Bhandakkar from the Wildlife Welfare Society, Nagpur, informed Nagpur News about the incident. According to Bhandakkar, the snake bit Rani first, and crucial time was lost in seeking immediate medical attention, which likely contributed to her death.
Following the bite, Ram was initially rushed to a local hospital in Chhindwara. However, due to the severity of his condition, he was subsequently referred to GMCH in Nagpur, where he is now battling for his life.
The incident has highlighted the urgent need for prompt medical response in cases of venomous snake bites, especially in rural areas where immediate access to advanced medical care may be limited.
