Concerns are raised by Indian athletes over Olympic medal "rust"

Manu Bhaker was shocked to discover that the gleam from her Olympic gold was actually fading a week after she won bronze at her first Olympics in Paris. The color of her second Olympic bronze medal likewise started to fade in a matter of days.

In addition to Manu, who became the first Indian to win two gold at an Olympics since independence, fellow shooters Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kusale were also upset to see their sport's most prized award lose its shine.


Medallists from all around the world have been complaining about the poor quality of the medals given out at the Olympics in Paris. The "defective medals" will be replaced, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) informed AFP.

The medals from the Paris Olympics were hailed as groundbreaking. Each medal is adorned with an original piece of the Eiffel Tower, France's most recognizable emblem, which is taken from the monument's running company's inventory. The Acropolis and Nike, the Greek goddess of triumph, are depicted on the opposite side.
