Nagpur, India:The construction of the world-class Nagpur Railway Station is progressing slowly, with only 35% of the work completed after a year and a total expenditure of ₹101.48 crore. The project, awarded to Girdhari Lal Construction Pvt. Ltd. in Delhi on October 17, 2022, has a target completion timeline of 36 months. However, with 2 years remaining and only 1 year left to complete the remaining work, doubts are emerging regarding the feasibility of meeting the deadline.

Currently, construction activity has intensified around the station premises. Progress reports indicate that 70% of the basement, 55% of the arrival block, and 65% of the departure block have been completed. On the western side, the basement parking is 45% finished, while the administrative building on the eastern side is only 25% complete. However, development is lagging for the Northern and Southern Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) and the air concourse, with only 5% completion reported in each area. Work has also commenced on the heritage building, while renovations of platforms and sheds will begin after the concourse construction is finalized.

In a related development, the Ajni World-Class Station Project, valued at ₹297.79 crore, was awarded to Keystone Infrabuilt and Globe Civil Projects Pvt. Ltd. on November 21, 2022, with a 40-month completion timeline. So far, ₹59.36 crore has been spent on the Ajni project, which is currently 40% complete. Notably, 65% of the eastern side station building and 80% of the railway quarters are finished. In contrast, the western side station building stands at only 20% completion, while the concourse is 25% done.

Additionally, platforms 2 and 3 at Ajni station have been closed since September 12 for 90 days due to construction work, causing inconvenience for passengers. Currently, 20% of the Northern and Southern FOBs are completed, while only 8% of the Central FOB and the through-roof are finished. The development of the circulation area is set to begin once the Nagpur Municipal Corporation grants permission to cut trees in the area.

As the deadlines loom, stakeholders and passengers alike are keenly observing the situation, hoping for accelerated progress in both projects.
