Nagpur, India- The criminal branch has arrested conman Sachin Meshram, a resident of Kodasawali, Parshivni, who duped over 5,000 investors of more than 15 crores. The court has ordered him to be held in police custody for seven days. So far, 3,078 investors have come forward, and the amount of fraud stands at 6 crores 84 lakhs 87 thousand. On October 11, 2023, a case of fraud and offences under the MPID Act was registered against Sachin at Kapilnagar Police Station. The victims of the fraud had even besieged the Kapilnagar police station in protest. The victims were outraged by the incident. Based on a complaint by Shubham Wankhede, the crime branch team conducted a thorough investigation and arrested the accused. Notably, Sachin had started a business in Nagpur city, targeting women in the slum areas.

Sachin, who comes from a very modest background, opened a firm called Sankalp Sales Corporation a few years ago. He lured poor people in Khaparkheda, Parshivni, Ramtek, and Bhandara with various incentives and later started his shop in Nagpur. He ran an unauthorized lucky draw scheme under the jurisdiction of Kapilnagar Police Station, trapping poor and needy people. He lured them with various promises, made ASHA workers and Anganwadi workers his agents, and forced them to invest in schemes like chit funds and fixed deposits. Nearly 5,000 people invested, and he accepted over 15 crores without returning the goods or money, defrauding the investors.

Court Denies Bail: The accused, Sachin, had applied for anticipatory bail at the Nagpur Bench of the High Court. Assistant Public Prosecutor M. J. Khan presented the case appropriately before the court. The court rejected his anticipatory bail application. The accused was arrested by the Economic Offenses Wing, and the court ordered seven days of police custody.
