Visakhapatnam, India: luxurious mansion, reportedly worth ₹500 crore and linked to former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has sparked political controversy. The massive structure, located on Rushikonda Hill in Visakhapatnam, has been dubbed the 'Sheeshmahal' due to its extravagant design and amenities.
Inside the Lavish Mansion
Recent visuals from inside the mansion have revealed high-end interiors, including imported furniture, Italian marble flooring, and luxury fittings. The property is said to feature a bathtub worth ₹25 lakh and imported plants costing ₹22 crore. The estate consists of four grand blocks spread over a 10-acre hilltop, offering stunning sea views.
Political Allegations and Environmental Concerns
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has accused Jagan Mohan Reddy of illegally constructing the mansion by levelling parts of the hill. The party alleges that public funds were misused to build the property, which was intended to serve as Reddy's official residence when Visakhapatnam was declared the executive capital of Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, there are concerns about environmental violations linked to the construction process.
Government's Response
Following these allegations, the TDP-led government is considering how to repurpose the property for public use. Discussions are ongoing, but no final decision has been made.
As investigations continue, the mansion remains at the centre of political debates, raising questions about governance, environmental responsibility, and public accountability.
