The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (MC) spent Rs 5 crore to install decorative LED lights on nine stretches of seven roads in Nagpur to showcase the city to C20 delegates. The lights were said to have a one-year warranty. However, a report reveals that many of the lights have either stopped working or are only dimly flickering just 50 days after installation. Private agencies responsible for installing and maintaining the lights have not been held accountable for the inferior quality work and lack of monitoring.
The decorative LED lights were installed on the stretch from Airport T-Point to Ajni Square, including a double-decker flyover, as well as on six other stretches. The MC spent Rs 1.27 crore on the Airport T-Point to Ajni Square stretch alone. The total cost of the installation was Rs 5 crore. The lights were meant to showcase 'Shining Nagpur' to C20 delegates.
The report reveals that many of the lights have either stopped working or are only dimly flickering. Some lights have dislocated and are hanging over the Inner Ring Road. Despite these issues, private agencies responsible for the installation and maintenance of the lights have not been held accountable for the inferior quality work and lack of monitoring.
