Nagpur, India: Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently announced a range of significant social security benefits for construction workers during a rally. He revealed that over 38 lakh workers are now registered with the Construction Workers Board, giving them access to several government welfare schemes aimed at improving their quality of life.
During the event, Fadnavis distributed ‘Suraksha Kavach’ cards, household items, and safety kits to construction workers, underscoring the government’s commitment to their well-being. He highlighted that the children of construction workers are eligible for free education from primary school through graduation, with admission fees waived for prestigious institutions. Additionally, families can avail free medical treatment worth up to Rs 5 lakh.
Fadnavis also spoke about housing assistance provided through schemes like the ‘Atal Awas Yojana’ and the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana,’ offering Rs 4 lakh in financial support to homeless workers for housing. Skill training programs for the children of workers are also being implemented to improve their future prospects.
In addition to these benefits, Fadnavis highlighted the ‘Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana,’ a scheme that offers financial assistance for women. The program was introduced by Sonali Kadu, with Om Prakash Yadav, former President of the Construction Workers Board, and Sandeep Joshi, former Mayor, concluding the event. They reinforced the government’s commitment to uplifting the working class and ensuring their social security.
