Nagpur, India: Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed officials to ensure that Ganesh and Durga idol immersions do not extend beyond midnight. This decision came after a meeting with citizens of South West Nagpur, a constituency Fadnavis represents, to address concerns related to upcoming festivals.
During the meeting, which was the first of its kind before the festivals, Fadnavis emphasized the importance of public safety, cleanliness, and proper planning during Ganeshotsav and Durgotsav. He suggested that idol immersions could be spread over two days to avoid late-night activity and asked officials to coordinate with festival organizers to complete the process by midnight.
The meeting also covered topics such as extending the validity of permissions from the Charity Commissioner, reducing advance payments to the State Electricity Board, and improving traffic management during the festivals.
Ritesh Gawande, President of the BJP South West constituency, called the meeting positive and noted that Fadnavis's instructions would benefit the entire city. Fadnavis also met with leaders of 145 Ganesh and Durga Mandals in the area to discuss their concerns.
Key officials present at the meeting included the Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, Additional Commissioner of Nagpur Municipal Corporation Ajay Chawre, and MLC Dr. Parinay Fuke.
