A high-level probe into a video purportedly showing BJP politician Kirit Somaiya in an inappropriate posture has been requested by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The Upper House of the state legislature expressed alarm over the video when it was broadcast on a Marathi TV channel.

Fadnavis promised a thorough investigation and the identification of the woman in the video in response to the concerns voiced by the Leader of the Opposition in the Upper House and Shiv Sena leaders. He promised the police would be notified and that nobody implicated would be protected.

In response to the outcry, Somaiya tweeted that he had never abused a lady and wrote to Fadnavis asking for an investigation into the veracity of the video. Opposition leaders, however, delivered a pen drive containing allegedly Somaiya-related video and urged an investigation.

They called for a probe to discover whether the woman in the video was being blackmailed and raised alarm over the leader's apparent connections with government organizations. During the proceedings, there was also a call for his security to be removed.
