Vidarbha, Yavatmal, India: Four doctors together founded Cotton City Multispeciality Hospital and Research Centre, with mutually agreed partnership terms. However, financial disputes arose later, leading Dr. Vishal Chavan to file a petition in court. Following the court’s order, the city police registered a case of cheating against Dr. Mujammil Kaushik and his spouse.
Paediatrician Dr. Vishal Govind Chavan became a partner at Cotton City Multispeciality Hospital and Research Centre in 2015, agreeing to share the hospital’s profits and losses equally. In 2016, a new doctor joined as a partner, contributing ₹10 lakh in cash as part of the arrangement.
In 2018, a dispute arose regarding the hospital’s accounting practices. The situation worsened in 2019 when operations were halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. By 2021, the financial dispute had intensified, prompting Vishal Chavan to file a petition in the district court regarding the ₹10 lakh transaction. The court subsequently instructed the city police to investigate the matter and register a case under Section 156(3) of the CrPC.
Following the court’s order, the city police filed charges against Dr. Mujammil Kaushik and Dr. Sara Mujammil Kaushik, both affiliated with Cotton City Hospital in Yavatmal. They are facing allegations under Sections 406, 420, 468, 471, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation is currently ongoing under the supervision of City PSO Satish Chavare.
