The government unveiled a draft National Sports Policy (NSP) on Thursday to utilize sports as a potent instrument for nation-building and integrate them with the larger goals of social and economic advancement.

According to the NSP, which Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya posted for public comment, "the policy adopts a multi-faceted strategy that addresses critical areas such as infrastructure development, talent identification, nurturing, governance reforms, and enhancing mass participation."

In light of India's recent successes in major international sporting events, such as the Asian, Paralympic, Commonwealth, and Olympic Games, the NSP acknowledges the need to build on these accomplishments and establish a long-term sports success strategy.

By leveraging its hosting of significant international sporting events, the initiative seeks to establish India as a "global sports tourism hub." "It can bring in large sums of money, improve the nation's standing abroad, draw visitors and participants from abroad, greatly expand the tourism industry, create jobs, and boost local economies."

It demands that programs and policies aggressively promote broad corporate sector involvement in the advancement of sports. To increase the acceptance and appeal of sports as a career path, a National Sports Education Board will be established.
