Within the municipal corporation, many employees actively engage in politics alongside their government jobs. Some work behind the scenes, while others openly participate in various opposition parties. In the Lakshmi Nagar zone, Satish, also known as Dheeraj Siraswan, a working electricity attendant, was unexpectedly appointed as the president of the BJP's Scheduled Caste Morcha.
When asked for his thoughts, Satish Siraswan expressed hesitance due to his lack of experience in the role and claimed he would decline the position. However, an invitation card for an event organized by the BJP's Scheduled Caste Morcha prominently featured his photo and name, suggesting his significance in the role. The inside pages of the invitation card showcased photos of prominent BJP leaders.
It is noteworthy that Lokmat Times also reported a similar case with Piyush Ambulkar, a sports officer, who initially accepted the position of president of the BJP sports front but later declined it. The situation with Siraswan appears to be following a similar path, indicating that, for these individuals, their government jobs hold more appeal than politics. Despite attempts to contact city BJP president Bunty Kukde, there has been no response.
According to Rule 5 of the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1979, government employees are prohibited from being members of political parties or associated organizations and from participating in or contributing to political entities.
In the Nagpur municipal corporation, employees who hold influence in the political arena can directly impact the decisions of high-ranking officials by invoking the names of leaders, ministers, and legislators.
