Nagpur, India: Indore Police recently uncovered a fake currency printing operation in Nagpur's Chocks Colony, under the Jaripatka Police jurisdiction. Six people, including Malkit Singh Gurmesh Singh Virk and Manpreet Singh Kulwinder Singh Virk, were arrested in connection with the illegal operation.
The group was involved in printing and circulating counterfeit ₹200 and ₹500 notes in several cities, including Nagpur, Mumbai, Pune, Jodhpur, Indore, Jabalpur, and Sehore. The police recovered fake notes worth ₹2 lakh, along with equipment used for printing.
Malkit and Manpreet are believed to have distributed ₹20 lakh worth of fake currency. They charged customers ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 to print ₹1 lakh in fake notes. The counterfeit notes were sent in parcels via travel buses to various locations.
The operation went unnoticed by local police and crime branch units, raising questions about their vigilance. The case came to light when Shubham, alias Pushpanshu Rajak, was arrested for using fake currency in Indore. He revealed that he sourced the notes from Mahipal alias Mohit Beda, who led the investigation to Malkit Singh's house in Nagpur, where the printing operation was discovered.
Police seized three printers, two lamination machines, paper, RBI security strip adhesives, and other equipment from the site. A total of 16 people have been arrested in connection with the operation.
