Nagpur, India: In the excitement of the festival, people tend to forget about their safety and the safety of those around them. This coming Makar Sankranti festival on January 14, 2025, the Nagpur Traffic Department has announced the temporary closure of several flyovers across the city to prioritize public safety.

Makar Sankranti, widely celebrated with kite flying, often sees children roaming onto roads to catch kites, which leads to potential accidents. Moreover, Manja used for kites is equal to a sharp weapon, particularly two-wheeler riders, who are at risk of serious neck injuries.

To ensure safety as well as smooth traffic management, the following flyovers will be closed to all types of vehicles, including bicycles and cycle rickshaws, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on January 14, 2025:

  1. 1.Adivasi Gowari Smarak Flyover, Sitabuldi
  2. 2. Sakkardara Flyover
  3. 3. Dighori Flyover
  4. 4. Golibar-Pachpaoli Flyover
  5. 5. Chowk to Sadar Akash Building Flyover
  6. 6. Dahe Bazaar Flyover

  13. 13. Kavlapeth Flyover (Kavrapeth to Rajiv Gandhi Nagar)
  14. 14. Pardi Flyover (Satvachan Lawn to Pardi Police Station and Kalamna Market to Pardi Police Station)

DCP Chandak advises citizens to follow traffic rules diligently and cooperate with the police to ensure a safe and joyous celebration.

This precautionary measure aims to minimize accidents and enhance road safety during the festive period, enabling the community to celebrate Makar Sankranti responsibly and securely. Nagpur Trends highly suggest to avoid nylon manjha, and use the normal manjha to fly kites.
