Nagpur, India: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught a forest guard in Lakadganj while accepting a ₹1,000 bribe.
The accused, Ramesh Ramji Sonule (43), a forest guard in Lakadganj, had already taken ₹500 instead of the official ₹100 fee for marking teak wood pieces, even though the complainant had legal permission.
A 30 year old man from Kamptee legally bought 15 teak wood pieces from Nakadongri, Tumsar Taluka, Bhandara, to make wooden doors. He had them cut into boards at Dhanlaxmi Saw Mill in Lakadganj and obtained permission from the forest department to transport them.
When he asked Sonule to mark the wood, Sonule first demanded ₹500 instead of ₹100 and later an additional ₹1,000.
The complainant refused to pay and informed the ACB. A team led by ASP Sanjay Purandare and DSP Rakesh Sakharkar quickly set a trap and caught Sonule red handed while accepting the bribe.
