Nagpur, India- The opening of the new four-lane Ambazari bridge has been delayed. It was supposed to be ready by August 30, but now it will not be finished until September 30.
This delay will make traffic worse for people in West Nagpur, who are already facing heavy congestion. The contractor announced the delay during a meeting with Dr Ravinder Singal, Commissioner of Police, on Tuesday at Police Bhavan.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Shashikant Satav was unhappy about the delay and stressed that the work needed to be done on time. The contractor explained that the delay is because the concrete needs more time to set and there were problems with the design and power lines at the site.
Dr Singal asked if there were issues with labour or materials. The contractor said the work order allows them until March 11, 2025, but they are trying to finish by September 30. Officials from MSETCL have promised to help speed up the work.
The finished bridge will be 21 meters wide with three box-type channels and 7 meters high. The delay is a big problem for West Nagpur residents, who have been dealing with bad traffic due to the construction.
To help with traffic, the Bombay High Court recently said the road inside VNIT should be opened for two-wheelers and told the authorities to speed up the bridge work. Despite these efforts, the deadlines have not been met.
