Nagpur, India: Four individuals, including two women, have been arrested for allegedly duping three people of Rs 21 lakh under the pretence of securing jobs at the Maharashtra State Electricity Generation Company Limited (MahaGenco).

The accused, identified as Kalyani Ashok Jaipurkar (48), Waman Dhularam Dambare (59), his wife Kalawati (55), and their son Kapil (30), all residents of Chandrapur, were charged after a complaint was filed by Nilesh Vijayrao Saware (40) from Ayodhya Nagar.

Saware, along with two other victims, was misled between January 15, 2019, and March 30, 2021. According to the complaint, Saware first met Kalyani Jaipurkar in 2019 at a music class, where she informed him of a job opening at MahaGenco. She then involved Waman and his family, who asked Saware to send his documents through WhatsApp.

Over several months, the accused asked Saware to transfer money for fees and other job-related charges. In total, Saware sent Rs 5 lakh. At one point, the accused gave him a cheque for part of the amount, but it bounced when Saware attempted to deposit it.

Investigations say, that the accused had also duped other victims, including Pralay Chaudhary, who lost Rs 6 lakh, and Gangabai Golhar’s son, who was cheated out of Rs 12 lakh, all under the false promise of MahaGenco jobs.

The Beltarodi Police have filed a case under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Authorities have urged other potential victims to come forward and report their cases.
