Vidarbha, Amravati, India: Students of G H Raisoni University have conducted a unique experiment by placing QR codes on various tree trunks. When scanned, these codes provide detailed information about each tree.

The initiative aimed to raise awareness among young people about the numerous tree species planted across the G H Raisoni University campus.

Dr. Vinayak Deshpande, the Vice Chancellor of the University, recently launched the initiative by unveiling the QR codes placed on the tree trunks. He kicked off the activity by scanning one of the codes with his mobile phone.

Snehil Jaiswal, the Registrar of the University, Prashant Awchat, the Dean of the Student Welfare Department, and Dr. Amar More, the Sports Officer, were all in attendance at the event.

The university campus features a variety of trees, including fig, almond, palash, jackfruit, banyan, tamarind, neem, gulmohar, kanchan, royal palm, and calorie pear. Complete information about each tree can be accessed by scanning the QR code on its trunk.

Om Deshmukh, Yash Ingole, Kartik Sarode, and Hitesh Sonar dedicated significant effort to the project, working under the guidance of Aditya Lokhande from the Computer Engineering Department. They researched various details about each tree, including its common name, scientific name, genus, region of origin, growth height, texture, trunk and leaf structure, flowering period, fruits, medicinal value, and practical uses. The students have also compiled this extensive information and uploaded it to a website.

Dr. Vinayak Deshpande praised the students’ initiative and encouraged everyone to draw inspiration from it. The event was attended by deans from various departments, department heads, lecturers, and students from the university.
