Gang Demands ₹1 Lakh from Ganpati Mela Organizer in Ambazari

Extortion and assault reported at Ganpati Mela in Ambazari. Local organizer Rajkumar Gupta threatened by extortionists demanding ₹1 lakh. Police investigate.

An extortion and assault incident occurred at the Ganpati mela in Ambazari’s N.I.T Ground behind Hanuman Temple on the evening of September 15, 2024.

Rajkumar Babulal Gupta, 52, who helps organize the annual mela, was approached by three men around 8:30 PM. The men—Satish Channe, 32, Rahul Ingole, 30, and Deva Shravan Sirsat, 32—demanded ₹1 lakh from Gupta. Channe, recently released from jail, threatened to shut down the mela and take over the parking area if his demands were not met. He also warned Gupta of possible violence.

During the incident, Gupta’s son was hurt by an unidentified person and had to be treated at Dande Hospital.

The Ambazari police, led by Sub-Inspector Pathan, have filed a case against the accused under several sections of the law. They have arrested Deva Shravan Sirsat and are searching for the other suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
