Nagpur: A 32-year-old man died while receiving treatment for Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) at Government Medical College (GMC) on Friday. This is the third GBS-related death reported at GMC this year.

Currently, one child and two adults are undergoing treatment for GBS at the hospital. All three are in the ICU, with one patient on ventilator support. However, doctors have confirmed that their condition is stable.

The man who passed away was first treated at a private hospital before being admitted to GMC in critical condition on February 12. Despite intensive care, he could not survive.

Dr. Atul Rajkondawar, head of the pharmacology department, stated that it is unclear if GBS was the direct cause of death, as the patient also suffered from other serious health issues, including fibrosis, alcoholic hepatitis, acute pancreatitis, and sepsis with encephalopathy, which affected his respiratory system.

Doctors in Nagpur are diagnosing at least one GBS patient every week, highlighting the need for awareness and early detection of this rare neurological disorder.
