Nagpur, India: On Tuesday, customs and air intelligence authorities seized foreign gold worth over Rs 61 lakh at Nagpur International Airport. The gold was hidden in two trolley bags, and the duo of passengers arriving from Doha were arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt.

Acting on specific tip off, teams under the guidance of Nagpur Commissioner of Customs Avinash Thete intercepted the smuggling operation around 4:30 AM. The operation involved personnel from the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) and the Air Customs Unit (ACU).

The gold was cleverly concealed in the form of thick silver-colored wires inside the trolley bags, making it difficult to detect through standard baggage screening machines. In total, 384.100 grams and 475.230 grams of 24k gold, valued at Rs 61,25,549, were seized from the two passengers who arrived on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha.

Both passengers were arrested based on the intelligence received, and further investigation into the smuggling operation is underway.
