Nagpur, India: Vidarbha’s young spinner, Harsh Dubey, has created history in the Ranji Trophy by taking the most wickets in a single season. The 22-year-old achieved this record during the final against Kerala at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Friday.
Dubey took his 69th wicket in the second innings, breaking the previous record of 68 wickets set by Bihar’s Ashutosh Aman in the 2018-19 season. Unlike Aman, who played in the Plate Group, Dubey’s wickets came against strong Elite Group teams, making his achievement even more remarkable.
He played a crucial role in Vidarbha’s success, especially in the semi-final against Mumbai, where he claimed his seventh five-wicket haul of the season.
Dubey has also performed well with the bat, scoring 472 runs in 17 innings, including five half-centuries. He is now one of the few all-rounders to score over 450 runs and take 50 wickets in a single Ranji season.
Dubey’s cricket journey started by chance when he and his father found a cricket academy while out buying schoolbooks. He later trained in Chennai’s TNCA first-division league and learned valuable lessons from Indian spin legend R Ashwin.
Despite being Vidarbha’s top wicket-taker last season, he was not selected for the Duleep Trophy in 2024. However, with this record-breaking performance, Dubey has proven himself as one of India’s most promising young spin bowlers.
