In a captivating showcase of artistry and cultural richness, the iconic Hema Malini mesmerized an audience of around 25,000 at the Maha Sanskruti Mahotsav in Ramtek on Friday. Her portrayal of Sita in the dance ballet offered a delightful glimpse into the abundant heritage and traditions of Indian mythology, accompanied by a talented troupe of 54 artists.

The dance-drama took centre stage on the inaugural day of the State-level Maha-Sanskruti Mahotsav in Ramtek, Nagpur district. Embodying the role of Sita, Hema Malini won hearts with her graceful movements, expressive gestures, and commanding stage presence. The performance depicted key scenes from the epic 'Ramayan,' including the birth, childhood, and education of Shri Ram, the 'Swayamvar,' the 14 years in exile, and the victory over Ravana in Lanka.

The audience, packed into Nehru Maidan in Ramtek on Friday evening, showered the artists with loud applause.

The performance unfolded in two parts, narrating the epic tale of Sita's life—from her incarnation and marriage to Lord Rama to their journey into the forest. The first part concluded with the Van Gamana, leaving the audience eagerly awaiting the second half.

In the second part, adorned in exquisite costumes, Hema Malini delved deeper into the narrative, presenting episodes such as Kewat Prasang, Bharat Milap, Surpanakha Prasang, Swarn Mrug, Sita Haran, Jatayu Sanhar, Sugriv Milan, Lanka Dahan, Setu Bandhan, War, Lanka Vijay, Sita Milan, and Ayodhya Aagman.

The audience was transported into the mythical world as the dancers expertly depicted iconic moments. The musical brilliance of the performance was elevated by the compositions of the late Ravindra Jain, complemented by the soulful voices of renowned singers Suresh Wadkar, Kavita Krishnamurthi, and Sushil Kumar. The seamless coordination of Natya Vihar Kala Kendra, led by Hema Malini herself, brought the entire production to life.

A grand stage was erected at the venue, and the play commenced with 'Ganesh Vandana.' Hema Malini, also known as the 'Dream Girl,' and her troupe delivered one of the most memorable dance performances at Ramtek. Directed by Bhushan Lakhandri, the drama unfolded against the backdrop of a 52-foot tall replica of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and a 'Yajna Kund,' attracting the attention of the attendees.

The five-day festival, organized by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs in coordination with the district administration, features various cultural events and concludes on January 23. The festival, free for entry, hosted dignitaries such as Krupal Tumane, Member of Parliament from Ramtek, Adv Ashish Jaiswal, MLA, Dr Vipin Itankar, District Collector, Saumya Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad, and other esteemed guests.

On January 20, the cultural extravaganza continues with Suresh Wadkar and his group presenting a performance featuring a repertoire of Hindi and Marathi songs. The Maha Sanskruti Mahotsav stands as a testament to the vibrant cultural tapestry of the region, fostering a deep connection with tradition and mythology.
