Hingoli Hit by 4.5 Magnitude Quake, Tremors Felt in Surrounding Areas

A 4.5 magnitude earthquake struck Hingoli, causing panic. Tremors felt in Yavatmal, Buldhana, Washim, Akola, and Nanded.

Hingoli, India- On Wednesday, an earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck Kalamanuri in the Hingoli district of Marathwada at 7:14 a.m. The tremors were also felt in Yavatmal, Buldhana, Washim, Akola, Nanded, and other parts of the state.

Local authorities, including district disaster management teams, have confirmed the earthquake and are currently assessing the situation. Mild tremors were reported in Washim town and its district headquarters, as well as in Mangrulpir, Manora, and Shelubazar towns.

The earthquake caused panic among residents, who quickly evacuated their homes. Many reported that household furniture and equipment shook dangerously. In some areas, significant damage was reported, including the house of Gautam Dongre in Jambrun Jahangir, Washim taluka, which developed cracks in the walls. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported.

Authorities are urging people to remain calm and follow safety guidelines during aftershocks. Disaster management teams are on high alert and ready to assist as needed.

In Buldhana district, tremors were felt in Lonar and Mehkar talukas, causing fear among citizens. However, no damage to property or loss of life has been reported in the district.

The earthquake's epicentre was in Kalamanuri, 265 km from Nagpur district. In March, Hingoli experienced three consecutive earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.5, 3.6, and 2.6. Similarly, Seoni in Madhya Pradesh, near Nagpur, experienced a 2.8 magnitude earthquake on July 8, with its epicentre around 156 km from Nagpur district.

The recent earthquakes in Hingoli and Seoni are a concern for Nagpur city due to their proximity to major earthquake-prone areas like Latur and Jabalpur. Historically, both districts have not experienced significant seismic activity.
