Multiple hoardings of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in different locations have been displayed in Mumbai after the Badlapur sexual assault. Accused Akshay Shinde was shot dead in police custody after an altercation, the hoarding displays Devendra Fadnavis holding a gun and "Badla pura" in text. 

Akshay Shinde was shot dead by the police in a retaliatory firing after he snatched a constable's gun and opened fire on the police, according to the police. Shinde was accused of sexually assaulting two minor girls in a school toilet in Badlapur, Maharashtra. His death in police custody has sparked a war of words between the government and the Opposition just ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Sources said the accused was under investigation for sexual assault as his ex-wife had registered an FIR against him. During the interrogation accused fired a police personal, Nilesh More by snatching his gun, got injured in an altercation and soon was admitted to hospital. Police took the step in self-defence.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responded to the constant questioning of police actions. Last month, significant protests erupted in Badlapur, Thane, after Akshay Shinde was accused of sexually assaulting two girls. Shinde had been hired on a contract basis to clean the school toilets starting August 1. The alleged assaults took place on August 12, and he was arrested shortly after on August 17.
