The Indian Institute of Management, Nagpur (IIM-N), located in the MIHAN command area, is on the verge of transforming into central India's inaugural green and energy-efficient management education campus by harnessing solar energy for its lighting requirements. The institute's director, Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, and the chief engineer of the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL), Satish Anry, formalized an agreement to establish a two-megawatt solar power plant on the campus.

IIM-N initially sought assistance from the office of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for this green initiative. Fadnavis successfully persuaded MSETCL (MahaTransco) to support the project as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. MahaTransco will invest Rs 9 crore in the solar power plant project and assist in its installation. Once operational, the solar plant will render IIM Nagpur entirely self-sufficient for its energy consumption needs.

The solar plant will be situated on approximately four acres of land within the campus. Presently, IIM Nagpur consumes about 3 lakh units of electricity per month, incurring significant annual expenses. The establishment of the solar plant aims to reduce these costs and enhance the institute's energy efficiency.

The two-megawatt solar power plant will provide electricity for the entire campus, encompassing academic and residential facilities. With the projected installed capacity exceeding the institute's current power requirements, any surplus energy generated will be directed into the state power grid, further contributing to sustainable and green energy practices.

The endeavor represents a significant stride toward making educational campuses environmentally friendly and economically sustainable, aligning with broader efforts to promote clean energy sources in India.
