Nagpur, India- Nagpur endured the scorching heat with temperatures soaring to 44.6°C on Thursday, residents anxiously awaited relief from the oppressive summer weather. The arrival of the South Monsoon in Kerala on Thursday brought some hope, as evening clouds partially shielded the sun, indicating a potential shift. However, despite the cloud cover, temperatures remained high into the late evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts thunderstorms and gusty winds from June 2, which should help lower maximum temperatures across Vidarbha. Although a gradual decrease in temperature is expected starting Friday, they will remain above 40°C until the monsoon fully arrives in Vidarbha.
Bramhapuri recorded the highest temperature in Maharashtra at 46.9°C, closely followed by Chandrapur (45.6°C), Gadchiroli (45°C), and Wardha (45°C), all exceeding the 45°C mark on Thursday. Amravati and Gondia each reached 44°C, while Akola, which had consistently recorded the highest temperatures this summer, noted 42.9°C. Buldhana recorded the lowest temperature in Vidarbha at 39°C. Minimum temperatures in Bhandara, Bramhapuri, and Wardha were above 30°C, which is 1-3°C above normal. Relative humidity fell below 50% in many areas, though Washim and Yavatmal still experienced humidity levels above 70%.
