India has made a promising start in athletics at the international stage as Kiran Baliyan clinched a bronze medal in the women's shot put event. The gold went to China's Olympic champion Lijiao Gong with an impressive throw of 19.58 meters, while Kiran secured the bronze with her best effort of 17.36 meters.
In the same competition, Manpreet Singh represented India and finished in the 5th position among the 12 finalists. His best throw reached a distance of 17.25 meters, showing a strong performance by the Indian contingent in the event.
The women's shot put final featured two Indian athletes who began their campaigns on a positive note. Kiran Baliyan overcame a slow start and managed to secure the bronze medal position with her second attempt. Meanwhile, Manpreet Kaur opened with a throw of 16.25 meters, indicating a competitive presence by the Indian athletes.
In addition to the athletics success, Indian swimmer Sajan Prakash participated in the Men's 200m Butterfly final, finishing in 7th place with a time of 1:57.44. In squash, the Indian men's team took a 1-0 lead against Malaysia in the semi-final, with Abhay Singh securing a 3-1 win over Muhammad Idrakie. Furthermore, the India women's hockey team achieved a resounding victory, defeating Malaysia 6-0 in a Pool A match, showcasing their prowess in the sport.
