In a historic achievement, Indian Para athletes made headlines by securing an unprecedented total of 111 medals at the conclusion of their campaign at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games. India proudly clinched the fifth position in the overall medals tally.
This remarkable feat included a collection of 29 gold, 31 silver, and 51 bronze medals. India's performance placed them behind China (521 medals: 214 gold, 167 silver, 140 bronze), Iran (44 gold, 46 silver, 41 bronze), Japan (42 gold, 49 silver, 59 bronze), and Korea (30 gold, 33 silver, 40 bronze).
On the final day of the competition, India added 12 medals to their tally, including four gold. The medals were earned in chess (seven), athletics (four), and rowing (one).
India had sent a contingent of 313 athletes to the Hangzhou Para Asian Games, featuring a record 51 Tokyo Paralympians in the team. The Indian athletes competed in 17 out of 22 sports, marking the country's debut in rowing, canoeing, lawn bowls, taekwondo, and blind football.
