Nagpur, India: Vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, must be fitted with new high-security number plates. Fines will be imposed for not installing them by March 31, meaning about 10 lakh vehicle owners in the city need to get new plates within the next 3 months. The installation process has started with around 200 centers in the district, but the response has been low. In rural RTOs, out of 5.63 lakh vehicles, only 990 have replaced their plates. In the city and former RTOs, only around 4,000 out of 17 lakh vehicles have changed theirs. There are 3,000 people on the waiting list in rural RTOs and about 7,000 in urban and former RTOs, highlighting the poor response.

Around 10 lakh vehicle owners in the city must get new plates in the next 3 months. While 200 centers have been set up, the response has been low. In rural areas, only 990 out of 5.63 lakh vehicles have changed their plates, and in the city, only about 4,000 out of 17 lakh vehicles have done so. Use of fake plates, penalties will be imposed
If fake number plates are found, vehicle owners will be fined, so it's important to change the number plate through the authorized agency. In the next three months, lakhs of vehicles in the city must have high-security number plates. An agency has been appointed for this, but there is a risk of scams. Fake high-security number plates may be sold, so police and traffic officials have been given the authority to manage and prevent this.

Charges for Number Plate
• Two-wheeler: Rs 450
• Three-wheeler: Rs 500
• Four-wheeler: Rs 745

It has been a long time now since the process of installing high-security number plates began, and the department and government have been conducting awareness campaigns. However, vehicle owners have shown little interest so far. With only 4,000-5,000 out of 22 lakh vehicles opting for the new plates, the situation is clear. Despite this, the department will continue to try and reach out to people more quickly. Vehicle owners who registered their vehicles before March 31, 2019, must get a new number plate, or they will face fines.

Three agencies have been appointed.
The Nagpur Regional Transport Department (RTO) has appointed three agencies: Rozmarta, Realmazon, and FTHSRP Settlement to handle the installation of high-security number plates. The city has around 22 lakh vehicles, with approximately 10 lakh likely to be pre-2019 vehicles. Efforts are being made to raise awareness, and vehicle owners must install the new plates by March 31, or face penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. Drivers are required to get the new number plates within the given timeframe.
