In response to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's remarks that he had six English top-flight titles while the Portuguese coach only had three, Jose Mourinho claimed that the Premier League trophies he won at Chelsea were earned properly.

In response to cries of "you're getting sacked in the morning," Guardiola, whose team fell 2-0 at Liverpool on Sunday, showed the home crowd six fingers to represent the number of league titles he had won.

Before his dismissal in December 2018 following a defeat to Liverpool, Mourinho, the manager of Manchester United, had done the same to opposing supporters throughout a lackluster league season. During a news conference, Guardiola was asked if he would suffer the same fate as Mourinho.

In his reply to the Spaniard, Mourinho referenced City's accusations of financial rule infractions from 2009 to 2018, which the team has consistently rejected.

Mourinho has previously made fun of City, stating that he hoped to add a fourth Premier League medal to his cabinet if City's titles were revoked and United, who came in second in 2017–18, received the trophy.
