Nagpur, India: The Juni Kamthi Police carried out a successful raid on August 9, 2024, resulting in the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of banned tobacco products. The raid was conducted between 7:15 PM and 8:05 PM based on credible information received during routine patrolling.
The operation targeted the residence of Nazrul Hasan, located above Kamthi Medical Stores in Juni Kamthi. During the raid, police apprehended Aslam Base, 38, a resident of Warispura Masjid area, Kamthi, Nagpur. Authorities discovered a total of 10 kilograms of processed betel nut (khara), betel nut, and tobacco products hidden in a plastic bag. A metal machine used for processing these substances was also seized. The total estimated value of the confiscated items is approximately ₹29,150.
Following the raid, Police Officer Nikhade filed a complaint at Juni Kamthi Police Station, leading to the registration of a case against Base under Sections 123, 223, 274, and 275 of the Indian Penal Code. Additional charges include violations of Sections 26(1), 26(2)(i), 27(3)(e), 3(1)(z)(p), and 30(2)(a) of the Food Safety and Standards Act. The suspect has been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
