The monsoon season presents particular difficulties for people who have asthma since certain triggers and weather variations can exacerbate symptoms. Unexpected weather variations, like heavy rain or storms, can have a serious effect on people who have respiratory disorders.
Changes in humidity, temperature, and air pressure brought on by these weather variations can cause or worsen respiratory difficulties.
Dr. Richa Mittal, a consultant in pulmonary medicine at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre, stated in an interview with HT Lifestyle that asthmatics are susceptible to a variety of triggers that can cause inflammation, bronchospasms, wheezing, and a weakened immune system.
These triggers can range from increased pollen and dampness with mold to decreased exposure to sunlight. Asthma-like symptoms can really be triggered by severe monsoon weather, such as a thunderstorm, according to study, which is why the name "thunderstorm asthma" was coined.
