Nagpur, India: A 17-year-old labourer from Madhya Pradesh has been arrested for killing Papa Madavi (66), a retired Government Press employee, in Nagpur’s Koradi area. The teenager, who worked at a nearby construction site, claimed he was forced into unnatural acts by Madavi and attacked him in self-defence.
The murder took place on February 25, when Madavi was found dead in his home in Durga Nagar. Since he was a senior citizen, police worked quickly to find the culprit. Crime Branch Unit 5, led by Inspector Sandip Buaa, used electronic surveillance to track people who were near Madavi’s house at the time of the crime.
They found that the teen labourer had been seen with Madavi and had been working just 200 metres away from his home since December 2024. Further investigation revealed that Madavi often interacted with labourers and had invited them home for meals like Maggi and biryani.
According to the police, Madavi had previously forced the teenager into an unnatural act and later gave him an ATM card to withdraw ₹5,000. The boy, however, withdrew ₹10,000 and gave Madavi only ₹2,500. When Madavi saw his bank message, he realised the full amount and got angry.
On the day of the crime, Madavi again pressured the teenager to go home with him. When the boy refused, Madavi allegedly threatened to leak a video of their past encounter. Afraid, the teenager went with him.
At Madavi’s house, the boy refused again. Madavi then grabbed a knife, which led to a struggle. The teenager slashed Madavi’s throat, and when the victim tried to hold onto him, he stabbed Madavi multiple times in the neck, stomach, and back, killing him.
After the murder, the boy returned to work at the construction site as if nothing had happened. He stayed there for two more days before escaping to his village in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, thinking he had erased all evidence.
However, police traced his mobile location and found proof that he was at the crime scene. A team tracked him to Balaghat, arrested him, and brought him back to Nagpur. During questioning, he confessed to the murder.
The Koradi Police have now taken over the case for further legal action. The investigation was led by DCP Rahul Makanikar, ACP Abhijeet Patil, and PI Sandeep Buaa, with the Crime Branch playing a key role in solving the case.
