Good news for animal lovers! Maharajbag Zoo is gearing up to welcome some new furry and horned friends soon. Thanks to an animal exchange program, the zoo will be receiving a bunch of exciting additions.
Ten black bucks and three four-horned antelopes (Chousingha) are on their way from Kanan Pendari Zoological Garden in Bilaspur. But that's not all! Maharajbag Zoo, which already has one male Chousingha, will also be getting another male and two female Chousinghas from Bilaspur Zoo.
Sadly, last year in September, heavy rains and flooding caused the loss of all the black bucks at Maharajbag Zoo. The enclosure got flooded, and tragically, all the herbivores drowned. Since then, the zoo's management has been working to bring in new black bucks. They've been in touch with Bilaspur Zoo, and finally, they've got the green light from the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) for the animal transfer.
Getting permission from the CZA is super important for moving animals between zoos. This isn't the first time Maharajbag Zoo has participated in such exchanges. Just last year in February, they received three pairs of Hog Deer and two Peahens from Bilaspur Zoo. In exchange, they sent a leopard to Bilaspur Zoo.
So get ready to visit Maharajbag Zoo and meet the newest members of their animal family!
