₹2.81 Billion in Illegal Goods Seized During Maharashtra Polls

Nagpur, India: Officials in Maharashtra have seized illegal items worth ₹2.81 billion rupees, including cash, alcohol, drugs, and valuable metals, during the enforcement of the model code of conduct across the state.
The value of seized items has tripled since the 2019 election, rising from 103 crore to 281 crore. In Nagpur, officials confiscated about 30 lakh in cash, along with drugs and alcohol worth several lakhs.
From October 15 to November 6, state and central agencies in Maharashtra seized 73.11 crore in cash and 37.98 crore worth of liquor.
Authorities also seized drugs valued at 37.76 crore and precious metals worth around 90.53 crore.
In addition, authorities confiscated various freebies worth 42.55 crore, along with other miscellaneous items.
Within the first 10 days of the Code of Conduct in Nagpur, 17 cases were registered under the NDPS Act, and narcotics valued at 5.54 lakh were seized from suspects.
A total of 251 cases were filed for illegal liquor sales in Nagpur, leading to action against 287 people, and the police seized over 6 lakh worth of locally made liquor.
Senior sources from Nagpur Police, speaking anonymously, stated that these large seizures are part of strict monitoring efforts to prevent illegal activities and ensure a fair election process.
Surveillance will continue to ensure that electoral guidelines are followed throughout the city.
