Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde late last night to discuss power-sharing in Maharashtra's coalition government. This meeting followed the recent entry of Ajit Pawar's breakaway faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) into the government. The discussions primarily revolved around a cabinet expansion to accommodate the new ally.

Earlier, there were reports suggesting that some MLAs within the Shinde camp were uncomfortable with Ajit Pawar's inclusion in the ruling coalition. However, the Shinde camp refuted these reports, emphasizing their unwavering support for Eknath Shinde as Chief Minister. Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant stated that Shinde's leadership is focused on unity and patience and that the reports of discontent are attempts to defame him.

Eknath Shinde himself denied any internal differences within the party, stating that the government has now strengthened with the inclusion of a third party. He highlighted the combined strength of the MLAs, which exceeds 200, and expressed confidence in the support of Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah.

Concerns were raised by some Shiv Sena legislators following the entry of Ajit Pawar's NCP faction into the state government. Pawar's remark expressing his desire to become the Chief Minister further added to the political turbulence.

Sharad Pawar, the veteran leader of NCP, expelled 12 rebels, including his nephew Ajit Pawar and former aide Praful Patel. However, Ajit Pawar's faction claims to be the true NCP and has taken the party name and symbol from the Election Commission. The situation remains contentious, with support divided between the two factions. Sharad Pawar intends to challenge his nephew's claim and seek legal advice before deciding on the future course of action.
